ELAN DANCE ARTS BREAKIN’ PROGRAM BREAKDOWN

WEDNESDAY

Pre Hip hop – Introduction to Classic Hip Hop
Pre-req: 4 to 6 years old
Expectations: None
Class speed: Low

Learn some original hip hop steps and choreography.

Pre Break – Introduction to Breakin’
Pre-req: 5 to 9 years old
Expectations: None
Class speed: Low

Learn all the parts of breakin’ culture. Including top rocks, go downs, footwork, freeze and power.

Breakin’ Fundamentals – Foundation & Basics
Pre-req: None
Class speed: Low to medium
Expectations: Capacity to follow basic choreography

Mandatory for FIRST year break student.
Student of ANY LEVEL is welcome to take the class.
SERIOUS student should also take Break A.

It has a bit of everything, but runs at slower pace than Break A & B. This is a mandatory class for NEW break students.

Break A – Foundation & Drills
Pre-req: Highly recommend Breakin’ Fundamentals
Expectations: Capacity to independently practice
Class speed: Medium

Student of ANY LEVEL is welcome to take the class
EVERY student (despite their level) should want to improve their foundation for the rest of their dance career.

Adult Break – Classic Hip Hop Movement
Pre-req: 18+
Class speed: Low
Expectation: Capacity to follow basic choreography

Student of ANY LEVEL is welcome to take the class.
Will be simple clean classic foundational choreography each week.
Not too physically demanding, but a great workout.

THURSDAYS

Break A/B – Practice Session
Pre-req: MANDATORY to take ANY other break class as well.
Class speed: Low to medium
Expectation: Capacity to follow basic choreography and work independently

Student of ANY LEVEL is welcome to take the class.
SERIOUS students should also take an additional Break class.

Combines elements from both Break A & Break B but runs at a slower pace. Students of every level can also use this class for additional practice.

Break B – Dynamics & Execution
Pre-req: Average to excellent foundation
Expectations: Capacity to follow choreography and work quickly
Class speed: High

Class STILL has foundational and creation elements, team-work and battling, but focus is often on complexity, dynamics, big freezes, transitions and bigger movements.

Break C – Battle Ready & Creation
Pre-req: Average to excellent breakin’ foundation
Expectations: None
Class speed: Low to medium

Student of ANY LEVEL is welcome to take the class.
Focus is battle strategies, guidance on personal creation, developing their own style, teamwork and set refinement.
Class is also used to refine foundation, dynamics and execution.

Break D – Power Training
Pre-req: Average to excellent breakin’ foundation
Class speed: Medium to high
Expectations: Capacity to independently practice

Strictly power move training and practicing.
Student of ANY LEVEL is welcome to take the class.
Please note, taking this class without previous experience is very challenging.
